The quality of water used as an impact on the quality of the tea. Always use freshly drawn water or filtered water. Heat water to the recommended temperature using an electric hot water heater or a stove top kettle.

Heat fresh water to rolling boil or to a temperature of 212F.

Loose Leaf
Use the infuser of your choice. Measure 1 teaspoon of tea per person. For a stronger brew preference, add an additional teaspoon for the pot.

Infusion Time
Once the water reaches the appropriate temperature, it should be poured immediately over the tea leaves. Keep the teapot covered to retain heat. Time steeping carefully and infuse for 5-7 minutes. When the tea is done steeping, immediately remove the tea and lightly stir.
This black tea has more caffeine than teas in our green tea range. It's important to keep in mind that brew time accounts for the primary influence over a tea's caffeine content.

    Surprisingly Gentle Flavor
By Barbara on March 12, 2020

I have always hated Earl Grey Tea, even the smell of it. Then someone gave me a tin of English Tea No. 1 teabags. Not knowing what it was, I tried it and the scent of the bergamot surprised me. But I’m glad I went ahead and tasted it. This tea is delicious. The bergamot flavoring is so light, that I don’t taste it, and the scent is very delicate too. I may actually try Earl Grey someday after enjoying this!

That's my highest praise: I wish I could purchase this blend of South Asian and African teas in larger quantities, because I would drink it daily, if that were so.

A nice mild bergamot flavored tea
By Linda on March 12, 2019

I enjoy a nice Earl Grey, but there are times that a milder tea is called for. English Tea No. 1 is perfect for those times...a cool afternoon or evening for example. I'm glad to have found this brand of tea and will certainly try other teas from this company.

    Unique and flavorful
By Susan on June 10, 2018

I've never been a big fan of Earl Gray tea, finding it too smoky for my taste. English No. 1 has just a hint of the bergamot that gives Earl Gray that smoky taste - just enough for me. It's delicious!

Delicious, but not what I was expecting
    By katjv25 on April 12, 2018

I have purchased several boxes of English Tea #1 teabags in the past and absolutely loved the tea! The loose tea, however, has a much stronger bergamot taste than the teabags. Really, it tastes like they put English Afternoon Tea in the wrong tin. Again, it was delicious tea, just not what I was expecting. I will probably reorder a different type since bergamot isn't my favorite flavor for every day.
The shipping was very fast, and the website very easy to use. I higly recommend Ahmad Tea.

Good on the mild side tea
By Rktttee on March 21, 2018

Before this one I had been using Ahmad's Special Blend, which is a blend of mostly Ceylon tea mixed with small amount of Bergamot (What makes Earl Grey, Earl Grey). For a change decided to try this one. This is not as strong as Special Blend, it is on the mild side. I had found a tint of green tea taste when I first tried it. And then when I checked the already brewed tea leaves I noticed there is a percentage of green tea leave pieces among the black tea ones. This blend also has Bergamot in its ingredients list. But it is not over powering like most Earl Grey's are, that can kill the tea taste. It has slight flavor and smell of it.
This blend also needs more steeping time from both my experience and what is written in its instructions from its box compared to other blends I had tried.
Overall like other Ahmad tea's I had tried it is high quality tea. I personally prefer more strong tea flavor, I will go with a Ceylon blend next time. But this was a good change. I enjoy it daily now.

Ce thé noir me fut donné en cadeau, mais je ne sais pas du tout où le trouver au Québec, hélas ! Je l'adopterais volontiers pour toutes les occasions !

brought me right back to my childhood and having tea with my mom at the kitchen table - 5am getting ready for work, 6pm right after dinner. Tea right from England - we were still part of the commonwealth and many of our products were direct from England - oh those were the days.

English Tea No. 1: this is the quintessential tea. it has a very nice flavor that is not bitter or too intense; it is, in my opinion, the perfect blend of tea. this is my go-to cup.
